62% Of GCE Candidates Failed Maths And English

This is the latest information coming from the Waec council informing the public that 62% of the candidates that sat for the 2012 Nov/Dec GCE examination failed to have English and Maths with other 3 subjects as credits.


This is really sadden. As we all know that without English and Maths, no candidate can use such result to procure admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria.  God will help us ...

47,289 Nov/Dec 2012 GCE Results Witheld

This fact is to inform all those that sat for the Nov/Dec 2012 GCE that the WAEC council has withheld nothing less than a figure of 47,289 out of the 413,266 results of candidates that partook of the recently concluded examination.

The reason is because the candidates that wrote the examination has connection with various cases of examination malpractice.


Currently, the examination malpractice affected cases were being investigated and reports of the investigations would be presented to the Nigerian Examination Council (NEC), for consideration.

Editor's Note:
The possible solution to the declining in the Nigerian Education is that the Federal Government should make provide more facilities and upgrading the existing ones in order to make all teaching easier. Most of what teachers are teaching the students are based mostly on theory and not practical.

How Do I Check My 2012 WAEC GCE Result?

It is very easy to check if only you follow the following steps to the letter.

You have to type into the column, your 10-digit WAEC GCE 2012 Examination Number. (ie. your 7-Digit centre number followed by your 3-digit candidate seat number eg. 4123456789)

Secondly, you select the year you want to check. That is 2012.

Thridly, you pick the type of examination that you sat for. Is it May/June or Nov/Dec. We are talking about Nov/Dec, so pick the Nov/Dec GCE.

WAEC To Stop External Exam Candidates Registration Soon

This is a news update that we just got from the West African Examination Council (WAEC). The council has announced the move of stopping the registration of external students by schools.

This announcement was stated by the coordinator of WAEC in Plateau, Mr Basil Inyang. He said that "once a student failed the examination, the said student would not be availed the opportunity to register in the succeeding year".

The council will soon make the cancellation of registration of external candidates by secondary schools firm. This is because most students look for miracle centres to register for the examination, constituting the bulk of examination malpractices.

“If a student fails the examination in the first sitting and wants to sit for the second time, the students must go back to their former school and register again,’’ he said.

He concluded by saying that parents should instil into their children good moral standards and never support their children in any form of examination fraud.

It is now a week precisely on the 7th of December that the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Mr. Yusuf Ari announced to the press and general public the date for the Official Release of the 2012 NOV./DEC Senior School Certificate Examination Results.

WAEC Gets Appreciation From VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Ota in Ogun State, Professor Aize Obayan, said the Council had been very effective in its different evaluation strategies over the years.
“I believe that WAEC has performed well because we have continued to see improvements,” she said, adding that it had contributed positively to the manpower development of Nigeria.


“As WAEC looks forward to celebrating more years of excellence, we should begin to look at the models of test and measurement and how these would translate into the contents of curriculum.
“We cannot look at this without looking at the quality of our teachers,” she said.
Mr. Michael Alogba-Olukoya, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, said the body had over the years sustained its credibility, but urged it to intensify efforts to check examination leakages.

Governor Gabriel Suswam Did GCE Exams - WAEC

This is the news coming form today's tribune online paper about the alleged of forgery by the Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State. Thanks to God and also WAEC. West African Examination Council (WAEC) has cleared the fog surrounding the allegation of certificate forgery levelled against Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State.

On Friday, the examination body tendered the original General Certificate of Education (GCE) result of the governor before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Abuja.
The Assistant Registrar, Mr Kingsly Ugo Anyim, tendered the document, which the court admitted as exhibit in the alleged certificate forgery matter involving Suswam.
Three persons are standing trial for allegedly defaming the character of the governor in an article published in the Power Steering magazine.

The editor of the magazine, Dan Ekah, Chidozie Ukpai and one Oseer were arraigned by the police for “joint act of defamation of character, injurious falsehood, printing or engraving matter, known to be defamatory and sale of printing of engraved substance containing defamatory matter, contrary to sections 79,392,393,394 and 395 of the Penal Code Law.”
The Chief Magistrate, Hafsat Soso, was to rule on the no-case submission made by the accused, but had to adjourn till March 23 to enable her to go through the governor’s GCE result submitted by WAEC.
The court had earlier struck out the preliminary objection filed by the accused for being premature and ill-timed, but the accused had insisted that there was nothing linking them to the charges preferred against them by the police.

Governor Suswam’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Dr Cletus Akwaya, a prosecution witness in the matter, had told the court under cross examination that the said publication was not only written in bad faith, but the authors did not state whether they made efforts to verify the authenticity or otherwise of the allegations against the governor.

Icpc Detects Students Cheating With Handsets

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has said it detected that students have introduced a new way of examination malpractice by using handsets to decode examination questions.

A statement signed by ICPC's Resident Media Consultant, Mr. Folu Olamiti said that students would enter examination halls, mostly in many centers in Lagos with handsets stuffed with prepared answers and would download them to their answer sheets.

He said members of the ICPC's National Anti-Corruption Volunteers Corps (NAVC), in Lagos reported that the students committed the acts with connivance from teachers, invigilators and some school principals in most areas monitored.

According to the NAVC report, officials confiscated not less than 35 handsets of different grades from students used in cheat during examinations.

The ICPC said it observed that the highest level of ingenuity exhibited by the students was during mathematics examinations in WAEC, NECO and JAMB such that some stuffed answers to objective questions and the theoretical aspect.

ICPC Slams Jamb, Waec, And Neco On Exam Mal-Practice

Examination bodies came under heavy criticism from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) which alleged that students were caught with prepared answers to questions through their GSM handsets in examination halls.

The affected examination bodies according to the anti-graft agency are National Examination Council (NECO, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

Speaking a statement from its Resident Consultant on Media and Events, Folu Olamiti, the commission pointed out that the measures put in place by the examination bodies to monitor the activities of students and invigilators during examinations has failed in deterring such sharp practices.

The statement said the students now engage in sophisticated means of cheating in the examination whereby answers are downloaded using high-grade handsets both for objectives and theory questions.

According to the ICPC, it has become imperative for the Commission to raise alarm on the new level of cheating being demonstrated by Nigerian students during all grades of examinations as students now decode examination questions with sophisticated hand-sets.

Part of the statement read thus "ICPC said it made the observation during the last May/June, NECO and Jamb examinations by secondary and post secondary school students, insisting that the measures put in place by the examination bodies had not succeeded in deterring the students from engaging in mindless cheatings.

"The anti-graft commission said daring students would enter examination halls, mostly in many centers in Lagos with hand sets stuffed with prepared answers and would be downloading answers from the sets into their answer sheets.

"Members of the National Anti-Corruption Volunteers Corps (NAVC), an appendage of ICPC who monitored the examinations in Lagos reported that the students effected their criminal acts with deep connivance with teachers, invigilators and some school principals in most areas monitored.

"The ICPC, according to NAVC Report, said the officials confiscated not less than 35 hand-sets of different grades from students who were neck deep in using the sets to cheat during examinations.

"It said members of NAVC were specially trained to monitor examinations in Lagos West, Lagos East and Lagos Central and hence were able to decode all the tricks usually employed by students in cheating.

"The ICPC said it observed that the greatest level of ingenuity in cheating were exhibited by the students during mathematics examinations in WAEC, NECO and JAMB such that some students stuffed answers to objective questions in the subject as well as prepared answers in the theoretical aspects.

"It noted that answers to mathematics questions had been worked by unknown set of experts and then provided for willing students who in turn downloaded the answers into their different telephone sets as they sat for the examinations.

"The students were equally caught while mailing the prepared answers to their colleagues through GSM hand-sets, while the examinations were going on, a reason many of the sets were confiscated from offenders."


"The NAVC Secretary in Lagos, Prince Goodluck Obi, said, "It is disheartening that the students' have thrown caution to the wind to the extent that they have lost all sense of sanity, decorum and honesty while they freely engaged in vices like outright cheating, dishonesty, bribery amounting to corruption in all its ramification.

"It is against this backdrop that we in NAVC vowed to stop at nothing until examination malpractices in various forms and sheds are utterly eradicated in Lagos State and in Nigeria at large".

"The NAVC had recommended to ICPC that subsequent examinations in WAEC, NECO and JAMB should involve security operatives with special military or paramilitary training extended to as many invigilators as possible who would be employed for the purpose of monitoring the examinations in Nigeria," the statement added.
