2013 UNILAG First Semester Work & Study Screening Exercise Begins

The prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG) management has now announced that all the students of UNILAG with Cumulative Grade Point (C.G.P.A) of 3.00 and above that has registered for the 2012/2013 First Semester Work-Study Exercise should now check out their names and schedule for screening on the Work-Study Notice Board.

Venue for the screening exercise is at the Counselling Unit, First, Floor Bookshop Building, Main Campus, Akoka.


Time Scheduled is 8.00am to 3.00pm daily.

Period is as from the 7th of January  to the 9th of January, 2013.

Note:

At 10.00am in the morning, Recommended participants at meant to be present at the Julius Berger Lecture Theatre, Main Campus on the 11th of January, 2013 for briefing.

2012/2013 UNILAG Matriculation Date Announced

If you are yet to know, now you will know about the latest development reaching us from the University Of Lagos popularly known by its acronym UNILAG. This is to inform all the freshers or newly admitted students of the University of Lagos that the 2012/2013 UNILAG Matriculation date has been announced by the school management.

The D day for the Unilag Matriculation is on the 21st of December, 2012.

The way things will go on the day has been scheduled and announced by the management. The Unilag Matriculation ceremony will commence 9.00am.

Venue: Unilag Main Auditorium

This is to remind the newly admitted students and direct entry students of the 2012/2013 into University of Lagos that the UNILAG school management has announced the re-scheduled date of the 2012/2013 Orientation Programme for Year One and Direct Entry students.

UNILAG - The Best School In Nigeria For July

The University of Lagos has emerged the “first and the best” in the global Webometric ranking in Nigeria!

The July 2012 Webometric ranking released on the 16th of July, 2012, by the web-based world ranking of Universities (Webometrics) at http://www.4icu.org places the University in the 1st position in Nigeria and 16th position in Africa.

 The positions of some other Nigerian Universities on the July 2012 ranking table are as follows:

As shown in the table, the University of Lagos is the first University in Nigeria to be ranked amongst the 20 best Universities in Africa.

Webometric ranking is a measure of an institution’s presence on the web; it is computed using a number of parameters that revolve round the quantum and quality of electronic resources on a web site as well as access to such resources.

University Education Not For Everybody -UNILAG Don

A professor of counselling at the University of Lagos, UNILAG, has disclosed that only five percent of students who apply for admission in the institution get admitted, saying that university education is not for everybody.

Speaking this morning on Channels Television programme called Sunrise, Prof. Ngozi Osarenren, revealed that out of at least 100,000 candidates who applied for the last admission only 5,000 were admitted.
“At least 100,000 candidates chose the University of Lagos as their first choice, but we could only admit 5,000,” she said.
Osarenren explained that the university’s infrastructure such as classrooms have not been expanded over the years to accommodate the growing number of applicants.
“The same classrooms we are using today are the same classrooms that we were using many years ago,” she said.
The university don also stunned Sunrise’s anchors by saying that university education is not for everybody.
“It’s called ivory tower, it’s not for everybody. Why does everybody want to go to university when there are technical colleges, polytechnics and so on?” she asked.
Osarenren faulted Nigerian senators who are calling for the scrapping of the post-JAMB exams in various institutions, saying that the focus must be on capital development of the universities and not how universities admit students.
“The same facilities are run down, they are not being expanded, why should we admit more than our capacity?” she asked.
She said that at least 200,000 Nigerians are studying in Ghanaian universities with each of them paying between 10,000 and 12,000 US dollars.
She wondered why Nigerians are against increasing school fees at home when they are spending so much abroad.
She said the level of education in Ghana remains far below that of Nigeria, adding that students rush to Ghana because of certainty of admission and stable calendar.
“When I was in Ghana, I was the first female professor of counselling in that university,” she said.
