Promotion Test Killed Jamb Staff, Fainted Another

This really baffled me. I read The Nation's newspaper and saw that one of the staff in Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board died during the Promotion Test. The deceased by name, Mr. Emmanuel Nwoke died when he was writing the board’s promotion examination.

That was not the only incident that happened. Another  Maryann Katsina also fainted in the examination hall. One of the invigilator said that the slumping of the candidates was as a result of examination fatigue. Maryann Katsina is recovering in an hospital in Bwari District of the Federal Capital Territory while Mr. Emmanuel Nwoke gave up the ghost.

HMM... so, as exam dey kill students, e dey kill Jamb too. Lol

2012 April, Jamb Withheld "No Result Yet" Released

"No Results Yet" candidates has been disturbing my email address -BABSOMOTDEN@GMAIL.COM and thank God at last, the solution is out. I want to make an announcement to those that have been worried and also to those that are hopeless about the  "No Results Yet" cases that you can now check your 2012JAMB UTME RESULT once again. Check it because JAMB board has released more withheld results of the 2012 JAMB UTME examination.

Ojerinde Announced Date for Harmonized Cut off Marks

We just want to inform the general public on the update that we got from The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).  

 Professor Dibu Ojerinde, Jamb Registrar said that the release of cut-off marks for admission into universities will be made public comes the 21^st of May 2012

He made this declaration when a 4 man delegates paid him a visit. The 4 man delegates are from the Nigerian Turkish Nile University, led by its Vice Chancellor, Bunyamin Kaptanoglu. He said that a harmonized cut-off point would kick start admission process for 2012/2013.

This is the third edition of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which a total of 1.5 million candidates applied and sat for the examination in Nigeria and six other countries.

Real 2012 JAMB EXPO IS NOW OUT BUT

How much will you pay me for this real Jamb 2012 UTME expo? Ok… English Language…Type k … 1. A, 2.B 3.C 4.D 5.A 6.B 7.C 8D. 9.B 10. C. 11.E waaaaaaiiiiit  oooooo.... that was what a little boy told me last night before I retire to my bed. I was just laughing. Isn’t it funny? Now, let discuss about the main issue on ground. Do you think that Joint Admission and Matriculation Board popularly known as JAMB will have a negative marking strategy? Well, personally I don’t think so.  Thought this has been one of the most argued issues concerning Jamb. People especially the students want to know how Jamb marks their candidates’ examination sheets and also if there is anything called negative marking - a strategy to reduce guessing by subtracting marks for any question failed - was used.

Time Frame of 2012 Jamb Utme

This year Jamb Utme is said to last for about 3 and 1/2 hrs (three and half hours). In this three and half hours, you are meant to answer a paper of multiple choice questions in Use of English and 3 other subjects chosen by the candidate. Usually, candidates are given the Use of English paper to begin with after which the other 3 papers are distributed after some minutes (30-45min).

2012 Jamb Utme Questions And Mark

100 Questions for Use of English and this paper has a total score of 150 marks. For confirmation of that, please refer to your syllabus. The other 3 subjects will carry 50 questions each - equating to 100 Marks each. Candidates will therefore be graded to a total of 450 marks. Odds score are real. THOSE ODD SCORES ARE REAL.

How Does Jamb or Jamb Computer Marks My Answer Sheet?

Well, all I can say about the marking aspect of jamb is that they will score you what you have done. If you tick the right answer, you will be rewarded with the appropriate mark. If you tick the wrong answer, you missed the mark(s) for that question. If you shade two options like shading A and C in the answer sheet, you missed the mark(s) for the question also.

So, let it sink into you that there is NOTHING like Negative marking.

Even if you don’t know and answer you are advised that you shade an answer for the question. That is the GREATEST AND LEGAL EXPO that we are permitted to release. Another expo is that you must answer the questions you are very sure of and come back later to answer the rest that are unanswered. Reason is that towards the end of the question sheets, you will discover that there are a lot of cheap and easy to scale through questions. Jamb often asks very simple questions and keeps them at the bottom of the page.

Also note one thing. GUESSING SOMETIMES (NOT ALL THE TIMES) WORKS. SHADE AN ANWSER OPTION EVEN IF YOUR DON’T KNOW THE ANSWER.

2012 JAMB UTME Exam Date Postponed Or Change?

What is the 2012/13 examination date?  This is a jamb question type k in history year 1908. I can't Shout...Too FUNNY. This is one of the questions that I got from someone asking me about Jamb 2012/13. Is there any changing in the examination date of jamb? Has a new date for jamb utme announced? All these questions are funny and at the same time annoying. Here is what I have to say.

We are announcing officially to the general public that Joint Admission And Matriculation board is yet to announce any information regarding the postponing of the 2012 JAMB UTME DATE.

We have seen a lot of questions and rumors concerning changes in the date. Please note that if there is any change, postponing or whatever, you will be informed on the radio stations, television stations, newspapers and other media. The date of 2012 JAMB UTME in Nigeria still remain 24th of March, 2012.

2012 UTME Candidates Crys Out On Lack Of Awareness Of Compulsory Novels For Exams

Some candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2012 will be taken unawares when they sit for the compulsory English Language examination on 24th March, as JAMB has mandated all registered candidates to read two recommended novels for this year’s UTME.
It has been disclosed by JAMB that questions with 25 marks will be drawn from passages in these two novels to test if or not the students had read them. The recommended novels are: The Potter’s Wheel by Chukwuemeka Ike, 265 pages, and The Successor, authored by Jerry Agada which has 246 pages.
The piece of information which was embedded on page 198 of the 2012 syllabus revealed that The Potter’s Wheel has ten questions of 15 marks and The Successors, five questions of 10 marks. Total marks  obtainable if questions from both novels are answered correctly is 25.
However, barely two weeks to the unified examinations, many candidates still claim ignorance of the book saying they were not aware of the innovation that mandated students to read two novels for the examination. Some of the interviewed candidates said that their major concern was not only the stress of reading voluminous novels of over 500 pages, but that not enough awareness was created by JAMB.
Others said the examination body should have added the cost of these novels to the registration fee, adding that the novels are not available for sale in  bookshops. Some candidates who complained that they were not aware of the novels faulted sellers of JAMB forms who denied them access to the syllabus.
Miss Enibukun Ore, a candidate of UTME stated: “I am not afraid of reading the two novels of over 500 pages before the examination, but the timing of the introduction is wrong. JAMB should have informed us since 2011 to prepare our minds for it as the novels in question are not common to majority students.
According to Enibukun who scored 269 in the previous JAMB yet without admission:  “Most of us study a lot of past questions without going through the syllabus of current examination. The novels are scarce, though voluminous, I can read through within one week if available. I am not in any way against the introduction of two novels to be read before examination of this nature, but such recommended novels should be popular and common to  students. Anyway, my minimum target for this JAMB is 270.”
Enibukun who said she just heard about it a day before this interview  through her friend who registered for a coaching class, reiterated that JAMB should have made the novels available and include the cost with JAMB registration fee.
Similarly, Victor Anifowose who incidentally will be writing his first JAMB test said: “I am not aware of this development, all I have been doing is to study past questions. How will JAMB ask questions on these novels since there was no examples of past questions? Will it be asked like that of literature in English?” he asked.
Also, Mr Olu-William Onoja, a 30-year-old man aspiring to read law at the University of Lagos, stumbled on this story while it was being filed in a commercial bus and said: “I am not aware of the development. Is it true? I have not heard about these books, neither have I seen them.
However, I will look for  the books as I aspire to score a minimum of 290. I will inform my friends immediately as time is no longer on our side.” He, however, lamented that JAMB did not create enough awareness, adding that enough awareness should have been created through the mass media.
On her part, Miss Fapohunda Opeyemi who scored 218 in her last JAMB, yet without admission said that she got to know about this development two days ago through her uncle who is a journalist. “The major challenge before me now is how to get the books as they are not in bookshops.”

Gunman Killed 2012 Jamb Candidate In Ibadan

A sad occurrence happened in Ibadan and I decided to share it on here with you. It is from the Vanguard Online newspaper and the story really made me sad because the guy is 2012 Jamb candidate. He was preparing for the examination and death came in and took him away...just like that? May His Soul Rest In Perfect Peace... Here is the full story.

A man identified as Rilwan Asimiyu, said to be preparing to write the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB examinations, in anticipation of admission into the University was reportedly shot dead by an unknown gunman at Oke Are area of Ibadan. He was said to have been shot and killed by a lone assailant  in his sleep.
According to an eye witness, the assailant who was said to have forced his way into the house at 3 a.m., padlocked the door to the room of one Pa Muraina Lawal, a 98-year-old grandfather close by, to prevent any intrusion, broke the door to the room where the deceased and three others were sleeping, flashed a torchlight at the occupants before firing a shot at close range into the chest of his target.

Other occupants of the room included Ajibola Olalekan (19), Olalekan Sadiq (17), and Lateef Waliu (19).
According to Ajibola, who was in the same room with Rilwan, four of them were sleeping when they were rudely woken up by a strange bang on the door of their room and the door immediately gave way, hitting Sadiq on the leg.


“Roused from my sleep, I saw someone holding a torchlight and before I could know what was happening, I heard a loud sound of gunshot. I was unable to identify the man who shot being that the room was dark.
“Immediately after the man shot at Rilwan, he demanded for our money and hand sets. The four of us usually keep our mobile handsets on the small table in the room. I told him we did not have any money, but Sadiq managed to take one of the phones and gave to the assailant. Unfortunately, the phone belonged to Rilwan.
“We later discovered that the man came in through the back door and escaped through the same route. I was the one who removed the padlock on the door to Pa’s room before he could come out. We took Rilwan out in the pool of his blood and before we could take him to hospital, he had died. He was shot on the chest close to his heart”, Ajibola recalled.

Asked whether they suspected anybody to have carried out the dastardly act, everybody said they could not, saying, “Rilwan was such a very easy-going person. He was gentle and would not fight with anybody. He was just preparing to write JAMB with the ambition of going to University”.
The distraught nonagenarian and wood seller said when he heard the bang of the gunshot he initially thought something fell from the roof of the house and upon trying to go out to ascertain what had happened, “I found that I had been locked in from outside.

“Instead of killing, they could have come for my only handset and take it away. I can’t understand why anybody would kill Rilwan, who is very gentle and easy going. Since the death of my wife, he and the other grand children have been living with me, giving me comfort. Now, someone has killed him”, Pa Lawal lamented.

Meanwhile, the police yesterday took away the remains of Rilwan for autopsy and proper investigation.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer Femi Okanlawon (Assistant Superintendent of Police) said investigation into the incident had already begun.

Jamb Testing All Items To Curb Exam Failure

Examination bodies from 14 African countries are set to tackle issues affecting test items used for examinations to enhance quality performance by candidates.
Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde said this while speaking to the press at the 2012 International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) scholarship training on educational measurement and evaluation in Abuja yesterday.
He said the likely reason for the recurrent failure in the system could be based on problems the examinations test items encounter.
He said it was time to concentrate on the item test response theory which deals on the test items proficiency rather than classical test theory which deals on the people involved.
Participating countries include: South Africa, Malawi, Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya, Cameroon, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Zambia, Namibia, Uganda, Swaziland and Nigeria.
On her part, Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa'i urged the examination bodies to see the training session as an opportunity to improve on the quality of public examination.
She assured them of the Federal Government's support towards the initiative, and urged UNESCO to rekindle its supports for the programme as well as other initiatives that would make African countries lead in educational measurement and assessment.

JAMB Denies Fradulent SMS To Candidates And Centres

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has dissociated itself from an unauthorized text message which had been in circulation and is aimed at misleading and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.

The registrar and chief executive officer of JAMB, Prof Dibu Ojerinde, who disclosed that the number is 08095515420 said JAMB is most embarrassed as the message tried to associate him with its illegal activities.

Prof Ojerinde in a press statement made available to LEADERSHIP said JAMB wishes to draw the attention of the public ‘to the illegal activities of some faceless and fraudulent activities of persons who have been circulating SMS purportedly asking parents and guardians to contact EL’ Technologies for non-existing biometric solution for UTME in Abuja.

It further revealed that the message reads thus: This is to notify all accredited centres in Abuja with 10 digits access codes that they are to contact EL-Technologies for all their biometric enquiries regarding the 2012 UTME offline registration’.

Prof Ojerinde also called and appealed to the Police high command in the FCT to help track down the fraudsters and use them as deterrents for others who might want to practise such illegal activities.
