This is to inform the general public on the state of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology - RSUST, Port Harcourt. Today, students were seen loitering around the school doing nothing.We noticed that the Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) with the lecturers of the school are behind the striking issue. Reason? You asked.It is because of the reappointment of Professor Barineme Fakae as Acting Vice-Chancellor. The acting VC has told the members and lecturers to come in and let them settle it all amicably on the round-table. He also said that all he wants from them is their understanding and support.
The ASUU Chairman, Felix Igwe said that there is a law that governing the seat of the VC and must be done according to the law. The Governor Rotimi Amaechi has to reverse Professor Fakae’s reappointment. Professor Fakae has been the official acting vice-chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology - RSUST since August 1, 2008 and his tenure was meant to expire on the July 31.
So, they( the lecturers) are saying they need a fresh Vice-Chancellor.
