Saraki buys JAMB forms for prospective applicants

Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, who is also the immediate past governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, has purchased 1,225 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board/UTME 2012/2013 registration forms for prospective applicants across the existing three senatorial districts in the state.

Speaking through the state’s Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Suleiman Yusuff, in Ilorin on Tuesday, Saraki said education should not be the exclusive duties of the three tiers of government, noting that the educational policy, if well implemented, could save the nation from poverty, violence and social vices.
The Senator, who lauded the educational policy of his successor, Alhaji Abudlfatah Ahmed, said he believed that other public office holders in the state should justify their election into offices via prompt implementation of various people-oriented programmes.

“We must not be public office holders that will forget those who have given us mandates to be where we are today. We need to show them that we are worthy of the offices we are presently occupying. The governor has no doubt done very well in this area, but other people should emulate him.
“We must not wait until election time before we  visit our wards. We need to go there regularly. We need to mix freely with our people in order to know their areas of needs. We need to see if they have water to drink. We need to know if they can afford hospital bills. We need to know their level of riches and poverty towards assisting them in our little way. Government alone cannot meet all these needs”, he said.

All the eligible applicants, he added, are to report for screening at the Government Secondary School, Maraba, Ilorin, while the official presentation of the forms will be made at Mandate Hall Adewole, Ilorin.
For Saraki, his awards would cut across party affinity. He, however, stressed that the beneficiaries must be Kwarans “who are indeed eligible for the examinations.”
He said the development was an experiment as he promised more of such gestures in future, adding that education of the youths “would go a long way in developing our state and by an extension our nation and thus put Kwara on top in all good things.”
