Application for Admission into Full-Time Professional One Year Masters Postgraduate Courses
in Partnership with Government Agencies, Non-Government Agencies and industry, for
Harmattan Semester, 2011/2012 Academic Session.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into Full-Time
Postgraduate Programmes for Harmattan Semester, 2011/2012.
The Programmes available in Department of Geology, Faculty of Science are:
i. Master in Petroleum Geosciences
ii. Master in Petroleum Geophysics
iii. Master in Petroleum Geochemistry
iv. Master in Mineral Exploration
v. Master in Groundwater and Environmental Geosciences
(A) INTRODUCTION
The twelve (12) month M.Sc. programme is purely a professional programme primarily
concerned with reshaping the future of geosciences education in Nigeria. It is especially designed
to provide skilled manpower for the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. Young graduates wishing to
improve their chances of joining the industry are also beneficiaries of the programme. In
addition, the programme will provide an intensive course of shorter duration for professionals
already serving in the industry and governmental agencies.
The specific objectives of the programmes are to:
i. Produce well equipped graduates to pursue geosciences careers in the industry
ii. Respond to the shortage of skilled geosciences personnel within the oil, mining,
groundwater and environment and service sectors.
iii. Attracts graduates with a strong theoretical background in mathematics, the physical
sciences and engineering to a career in the geosciences
iv. Provide advance training for graduates who already have some experience in practical
application of geosciences principles, but seek to further their understanding and skills in
a particular area of specialisation
v. Provide a solid grounding in the geophysical, geological and production geosciences
concept required to understand and exploit the various techniques at all stages from
exploration through development to production and reservoir management.
vi. Encourage and develop inter-disciplinary skills across all aspect of the geosciences and
vii. Provide the skills needed to undertake the independent research projects both in the
industry and within the university environment.
(B) DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME
The courses are full time, designed to run for twelve (12) calendar months comprising of
Harmattan and Rain semesters for course work and a Post-rain semester for the
independent project.
(C) ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS
Eligible applicant shall include graduates, professionals in petroleum, major exploration
and production companies (e.g. shell, Exxon mobil , landmark e.t.c )
(D) ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University or any other recognised university
with a minimum of second class lower degree.
2. Very important notice
In addition to the admission requirement as published, ALL candidates should please
note that in accordance with the university regulations, they must satisfy the O’level
first degree matriculation requirement of the Obafemi Awolowo University of Five
Credit Passes at not more than 2 sittings including English language and
Mathematics.
(E) TUITION FEE
The tuition fee for each of the programs is N1, 000,000.00 (One million naira only)
per student. It covers the cost of instruction and instructional materials, fieldwork for
a minimum of 16 days and Computer time, excluding accommodation, feeding,
purchase of books etc. Limited number of scholarships will be available.
(F) METHOD OF APPLICATION
Purchase of application forms shall be through ONLINE only. Candidate can
conveniently complete the application forms and pay online by following the steps:
Step 1: Log on to our admission website http://apply.oaunetque.com
Step 2: Create an online account, e-mail will be sent with additional details including
a system generated password.
Step 3: With the e-mail and password combination, applicant should sign in and
accurately fill the pages of the application form.
Step 4: Application processing fee can be paid using either ATM / Nigeria debit
cards or the Obafemi Awolowo University postgraduate online application scratch
cards (details will be sent via e-mail)
Step 5: applicant should scan and submit relevant documents, WAEC and NYSC
certificate online in support of their application (see note on admission)
(G) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. ATM cards for all banks on the inter-switch network are supported
2. The progress of completed application forms can be monitored online and
notification will be sent to applicants once decisions are made on the application
3. Applicant will be notified of the status of the application by e-mail
(H) NOTES ON ADMISSION
The original transcript obtained from the applicant university must be properly
addressed to:

Any applicant whose original transcript does not reach us before the admission
exercise begins “will not be admitted”.
