Unical Mourns the Demise of First Indigenous Vice Chancellor

The University of Calabar has been thrown into a state of mourning with the news of the demise of the fourth but first indigenous Vice Chancellor of Cross River Extraction, Ntufam Professor Charles Effiong(FRCP).at the age of 88. 

Professor Charles Effiong, a renowned professor of Paediatrics whose exit took place on Monday, January 14, 2013 has been widely described as a dutiful teacher, mentor par excellence and a competent administrator. 

Professor Charles Effiong who is also said to be the first Professor of Ejagham Extraction is credited with laying the foundation for the massive involvement Of Cross Riverians in the running of the University of Calabar in line with the principles and provisions of the Federal Character Commission. 

This Great son of Oban will be widely remembered for his humane nature, kindness, principles and great sense of mentorship. 

As he will be committed to mother earth on Friday,8th February, 2013 in his Country home, Oban in Akamkpa Local Government Area, the University of Calabar pray the Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty
