ADMISSIONS INTO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME IN THE 2012/2013 ACADEMIC SESSION

ADMISSIONS INTO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES IN THE 2012/2013 ACADEMIC SESSION
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into various Postgraduate degree programmes of the University.

A. POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES OFFERED
1. Ph.D. Degree Programmes are available to holders of M.A; M.Ed.; M.Eng.; M.Sc.; LL.M; M.Comm.H.; and M.P.H degrees, with a minimum of 60% score in their Master degree programmes. Candidates who score between 55 and 59.9 percent should apply for admission into the Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree programme. A Ph.D. degree programme runs for a minimum period of 30 calendar months and a maximum period of 42 calendar months for Full-Time candidates; OR, a minimum period of 42 calendar months and a maximum period of 54 calendar months for Part-Time candidates.

2. The M.Phil. degree programme is available for now only to Full-Time candidates and it runs for a minimum period of 12 calendar months and a maximum period of 24 calendar months. .

3. M.A.; M.Ed.; M.Eng.; M.Sc.; M.Com.H., LL.M and M.P.H. Degrees, run for a minimum period of 12 calendar months and a maximum period of 24 calendar months for Full-Time candidates, OR, a minimum period of 24 calendar months and a maximum period of 36 calendar months for Part-Time candidates. At the University of Ilorin, unless with a written approval of the University Senate, a Master or Ph.D. degree programme automatically lapses at the expiration of the maximum duration for each programme. However, a Master or Ph.D. degree candidate may apply for an extension of not more than 12 months, in the first instance, subject to a maximum of two such extensions.

4. All Master Degree Programmes, except M.Phil., are by course work, in addition to a research project report. M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degree Programmes are normally by research, except that relevant course work may be prescribed, where necessary. A dissertation is required for the M.Phil. programme and a thesis is required for the Ph.D. programme.

5. All Returning Students are expected to register at the beginning of every Postgraduate academic session (i.e., every 12 calendar months, commencing from 2nd October to 30th September).

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Executive
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum of six (6) semesters, and a maximum of ten (10) semesters. Executive MBA students will attend lectures on weekends. They are also expected to come in for two (2) weeks during long vacation for intensive academic work. The available areas of specialization include: Accounting, Marketing, Personnel Management, Finance, General Management, and Operations Management.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum period of 24 calendar months and a maximum period of 36 calendar months for Full-time; a minimum period of 36 calendar months and a maximum period of 48 calendar months for Part-time. Areas of specialization include: Accounting, Marketing, Personnel, Finance, General Management and Operations Management.

Master of Geographic Information System (MGIS)
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum period of 18 calendar months and a maximum period of 24 calendar months for full-time candidates ONLY.

Master of Industrial and Labour Relations (MILR)
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum period of 18 calendar months and a maximum period of 30 calendar months for Full-Time only. Areas of specialization include: Labour Management Relations, Personnel and Human Resources Management; Industrial, Conflict and Dispute Resolution; and Labour Law.

Master of International Studies (MIS)
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum period of 30 calendar months and a maximum period of 45 calendar months. Lectures hold fortnightly. The available areas of specialization include: International Economic Relations; Foreign Policy; Strategic Studies; Diplomacy and International Politics.

Master of Public Administration (MPA)
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum period of 18 calendar months and a maximum period of 24 calendar months for Full-time only. Areas of specialization include: Public Finance, Budgeting, Personnel Management, Public Policy and Development Administration.

Postgraduate Diploma in Geographic Information System (PGDGIS)
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum period of 12 months and a maximum period of 18 calendar months for Full-time candidates only.

Postgraduate Diploma in International Affairs and Diplomacy (PGDIAD)
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum period of 30 calendar months and a maximum period of 45 calendar months. The programme runs on weekends and fortnightly. The available areas of specialization include: International Economic Relations; Foreign Policy; Strategic Studies; Diplomacy and International Politics.

Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management (PGDSM)
The duration of the programme shall normally be a minimum of 12 calendar months and a maximum of 18 calendar months for Full-time candidates only.

ELIGIBILTY FOR PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMMES

Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Candidates for admission into the MBA programme should normally possess Bachelor’s degrees from a recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division). Holders of professional qualifications of ACA, ACMA, AIB, ACIS, CIBN, ACTS or HND (Upper Credit) must possess a Post-Graduate Diploma Certificate in Strategic Management from the University of Ilorin with a minimum average weighted score of 60%. All candidates should have at least Five (5) Credit Passes at the Ordinary Level (O/L), including English Language and Mathematics, irrespective of field of study.

Master of Geographic Information System (MGIS)
Candidates for admission into the MGIS programme should normally possess Bachelor’s degrees from a recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division). Holders of professional qualifications such as HND (Upper Credit) with a minimum of five years post-qualification experience are also eligible to apply.

Master of Industrial and Labour Relations (MILR)
Candidates for admission into MILR the degree programme must normally possess a honours degree of the University of Ilorin, or from any other recognized University.

Master of International Studies (MIS)
Candidates for admission into MIS Professional degree programme should normally possess Bachelor‘s Degrees in any discipline with at least a Second Class (Honours) from the University of Ilorin, or any other recognized University.

Master of Public Administration (MPA)
Candidates for admission into the MPA degree programme must have a honours degree in any discipline from the University of Ilorin, or any other recognized University.

Postgraduate Diploma in Geographic Information System (PGDGIS)
Candidates for admission into the GIS Postgraduate diploma programme must normally possess a recognized Bachelor’s Degree with at least a Third Class Honours or HND (Lower Credit) or their equivalent, in Geography, Environmental Science, the Sciences, other Social Sciences, Forestry, Engineering, Architecture, Town Planning, etc,. Notwithstanding the above, candidates with substantial work experience who have attained managerial positions may still be considered for admission on individual merit.

Postgraduate Diploma in International Affairs and Diplomacy (PGDIAD)
Candidates for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in International Affairs and Diplomacy (PGDIAD) programme must normally possess Bachelor’s Degrees in any discipline with a minimum of PASS grade from the University of Ilorin or any other recognized University or HND with at least a Lower Credit.

Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management (PGDSM)
Candidates for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management (PGDSM) should normally possess Bachelor’s Degrees or Professional qualifications such as ICAN or HND certificate with a minimum of Lower Credit from recognized Institutions.

C. ELIGIBILTY FOR ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
1. Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science must satisfy one of the following:
(a) a minimum of first degree from a recognized University in Science, Engineering, Social Science or Humanities disciplines.

(b) HND in Computer Science or Engineering from recognized Polytechnics with a minimum of Lower Credit; and

(c) HND in any other discipline different from those in (ii) but preferably from Sciences or Social Sciences with a minimum of Lower Credit from a recognized Polytechnic or equivalent Institution, with at least one year cognate experience.

2. Applicants for Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics must satisfy one of the following:
(i) A minimum of an honour’s degree from a recognized University in any of Science and Social Science disciplines;

(ii) HND in Statistics from a recognized Polytechnic with a minimum of Lower Credit.

3. Applicants for Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management (PGDEM) should be:

(i) graduates of the University of Ilorin and those of any other recognized Universities approved by Senate, and

(ii) Higher National Diploma (H.N.D.) holders with Upper Credit and at least, three years work experience.

In addition to the above requirements, 5 O/Level Credit Passes including English Language and Mathematics are compulsory for all candidates applying for the above three Postgraduate Diploma programmes.

4. Candidates for admission into the PDDE programme should normally possess Ph.D. degrees in any discipline other than Education.

5. Applicants for the academic Master degree programmes who are graduates of the University of Ilorin and other recognized Universities, must have a minimum of Second Class Honours Degree (Upper Division) and must be applying for programmes in which they have their first degrees. However, applicants with Second Class Honours Degree (Lower Division) and those with higher classes of degrees seeking admissions into programmes outside those in which they have their first degrees may be admitted provided they satisfy Senate in a qualifying examination to be conducted. The least class of Degree for all academic programme applicants is Second Class Honours Degree (Lower Division). Regardless of the institution where the Bachelor’s degree was obtained, ALL candidates must apply early for their official Bachelor’s degree academic transcript to be sent to the Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, before the expiration of the stated deadline.

6. Applicants for the Ph.D. degree programme must have obtained a relevant Master degree of this or other recognized University, with an average weighted score of at least 60%. Short-listed candidates would be required to satisfy the Postgraduate School in the qualifying interviews and assessments by the relevant Department. Regardless of the Institution where the Master’s degree was obtained, ALL candidates must apply early for their official Master degree academic transcripts to be sent to the Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, for the purpose of this admission and before the expiration of the stated deadline. All candidates must have 5 O/L credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics or pass in Mathematics, where applicable.

7. All Higher Degree candidates that attended foreign Universities, where English language is not the medium of instruction, should submit to the Postgraduate School, evidence of their English Language proficiency, e.g., TOEFL or IELTS scores.

D. APPLICATION FEES
Application fee for all programmes is N25,000.00 only, for Applicants within Nigeria or $200 only, for International Applicants.

A three-hour qualifying examination for all applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Computer-Science and those seeking admissions into Master degree programmes, will be held on Saturday, 16th June, 2012, at 8.30a.m. at the following venues:

Part Of Futo Have No Electricity

This is to bring to your notice that part of the FUTO don't have electricity due to the heavy rain that rained sometime ago. The rain was said to destroy the electric poles and other electric stuffs.

Some part of the school campus are badly affected.The parts that have no access to electricity as of this writing are the eziobodo's and umuchima's. The school management are doing something about it and will  fix it soon.

2012 FIRST NNMA WINNERS' LECTURE DATE ANNOUNCED

The 2012 First Nigerian National Merit Award (NNMA) Winners’ Lecture will hold on May 3, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in the Main Auditorium, Main Campus, Akoka.

2012 NYSC BATCH "B" MOBILIZATION EXERCISE: CONFIRMATION PHASE FOR PROSPECTIVE CORPS MEMBERS BEGINS, APRIL 26

The Students’ Affairs Division has commenced the processing of the list of prospective corps members for the 2012 Batch ‘B’ Mobilization Exercise.



As part of efforts to ensure an error free list, all graduates not mobilized for the Batch ‘A’ Exercise are advised to confirm their inclusion and details on the list posted on the University website: www.unilag.edu.ng and on Notice Boards at the Students’ Affairs Division.

The confirmation and correction phase will start on Thursday, April 26 and end on May 7, 2012. Please note that students who fail to comply with this instruction would be responsible for their omission from the list.

All About UNIZIK 2012 Post UTME Exam

This is to inform every candidate that will be sitting for the 2012 Unizik post utme. The school has not announced the precise date for the post utme but the examination will comes up June/July, 2012. So, all we are saying is that you should be getting prepared and ready for the examination.

It is not going to be tough but tricky. So, all you need is to interpret and understand the questions. We also get a kind of clues to the marking of the Unizik post utme answer scripts. This will give you an idea of how your scripts are marked and admission process in UNIZIK.
EXAMPLE:
UNIZIK HAS A LIMITED SPACE IS 500 AND MORE THAN 1000 PASSED THE POST UTME. UNIZIK WILL INCREASE THE INITAIL CUT -OFF MARKS SO THAT THE AVAILABLE SPACE OR SLOTS WILL BE FILLED TO 500.

2012 Kogi State University 1st Semester Exam Date Announced

This is to get you posted on the updates concerning the Kogi State University located in Anyigba, Kogi that the school examination for the 1st semester will begins comes the 7th of May, 2012.

Kogi State University also undergo the current accreditation conducted by the Nigerian Universities Commission Accreditation team. And they have been trying to get things into place. According to the alert, we are told that the examination commences once the NUC team are through with their works in the school. This is going to be May 7th, 2012.
