As the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, conducts its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, nationwide on Saturday, Chrisgate Motivational Network has conducted a ‘Success Summit’ to broaden students horizon on how to tackle difficult questions in which over 2,000 students attended. The Summit took place at the organisation’s corporate office in Ikeja, Lagos
The President Chrisgate International, Mr Christopher Alabi said, ‘“we understand the importance of educational development to national development, which was why we have over the years brought together thousands of students preparing for UME to enlighten them on the need to pass their examination without seeking for any help as this will form the foundation for their chosen career”.
Alabi said that the summit which started eight years ago was part of the organistation’s corporate social responsibility to give back to community and a way of encouraging hard work and diligence in the quest to achieve success.
The summit which was themed “Common Sense is Common” had dignitaries from educational institutions, the media, concerned parents and intending students seeking admission into various Nigerian Universities and other tertiary institutions in attendance.
Head of Sociology Department, Lagos State University (LASU) Dr. Elias Wahab, Group Accountant Kelsey Green Nigeria Limited, Mr Olawole Olusanmi, President Chrisgate International, Mr Christopher Alabi and others shared various experiences on the road to excellence and success in their various endeavours.
Dr. Elias Wahab in his keynote address identified corruption and examination malpractices as having negative influence in the lives of the students and on the educational system. He added that these are vices with militating effect on the overall health of the nation.
According to him, examination malpractice and corruption is a major factor contributing to unemployment rate, half-baked professionals, bad leadership, underdeveloped state of the nation, as well as inability of graduates to use the acquired skills to do something meaningful, thereby hindering their ability to contribute positively to the growth of the society.
Dr Wahab, encouraged the students to study hard for examination and also called on the government to provide good learning environment, employ qualified teachers, train and retrain teachers, as well as provide good incentives to take care of their needs.
In his own comments, Mr Olawole Olusanmi applauded Chrisgate motivational network for the huge investment the company is contributing to education in Nigeria. He called on other organisations to emulate the gesture to students at this level.
