ALL ABOUT BOWEN UNIVERSITY, POST UME 2011

UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION FOR 2011/2012  ACADEMIC YEAR
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into BOWEN UNIVERSITY degree programmes for the 2011/2012 academic session.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A.  GENERAL
(i)   UTME(a)  All applicants are required to sit for the 2011 Unified Tertiary Matriculation 
      Examination (UTME)

(b)   Applicants are to obtain Bowen University Admission Form by hand or post or complete on-line by visiting Bowen University website at www.bowenuniversty-edu.org
(c)   All applicants are required to have credits at SSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB or approved equivalent in at least 5 subjects which must include English Language and four other subjects as may be specified by each Faculty.
(d)  The five Credits should be obtained in not more than two sittings.
(e)  For Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) programme, the five Credits must   be obtained at one sitting.
(f)   Candidates awaiting results may apply.
(g)   All applicants will be required to go through Bowen University’s Screening Exercise.
(h)   Interested candidates who have applied to JAMB for admission and wish to change their first choice to Bowen University are required to:
1. apply for change of institution through JAMB
2. obtain the BOWEN UNIVERSITY admission form or complete it Online
3. participate in the screening exercise.

(ii)  DIRECT ENTRY
All applicants for direct entry must satisfy any one of the following:
(a) NCE, ND and approved equivalents with at least Upper Credit in relevant fields.
(b) The Bowen Foundation Year Programme (BFP) at acceptable pass level.
(c) At least two Advanced Level passes.
(d) The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) International Baccalaurate or Cambridge moderated School of Basic Studies at acceptable grade  levels.
(e) In addition to the NCE/ND/IJMB or two Advanced Level papers specified by each Faculty or programme, candidates must also satisfy Ordinary Level requirements.
(f)  All direct entry candidates are required to apply through JAMB.

(B) COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES
1.   Degree Programme Options
B.Sc. Anatomy (4 - Year Programme)
B.Sc. Physiology (4 - Year Programme)
Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) (6 - Year Programme)  
2.   Admission Requirements:

O’ Level Subjects
(a) Candidates must possess five O' Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, obtained at one sitting.
(b) For MBBS programme, the five (5) O’level credits must be obtained at one sitting.

(C) FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE (4 or 5 Year Programme)
1.   Degree Programme Options
(a)  B. Agric.
(i)    Agricultural Economics and Farm Management
(ii)   Agricultural Extension and Rural Development
(iii)  Animal Science and Fisheries Management
(iv)  Crop Production and Soil Management

(b)  B. Forestry and Environmental Technology
(c)  B.Sc. Food Science and Technology

2.  Admission Requirements
(i)   O’ Level Subjects
(a) Candidates must possess five O' Level credits to include: English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and one of Physics, Geography or Economics.
(b) For Food Science and Technology, at least  a Pass in Physics is required.
(ii)  Direct Entry
(a)  NCE/ND or approved equivalent in relevant fields.
(b)  At least two Advanced Level passes to include Chemistry and any one of the following:
Biology/Botany, Zoology/Agricultural Science, Economics, Physics and Geography.
(c)   IJMB / International Baccalaureate at acceptable grade levels.
(d)  Bowen Foundation Year Programme (BFP)
(e)   In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 2(i) above.

(D)  FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND SCIENCE EDUCATION (3 or 4 Year Programme)
General Entry RequirementsCandidates seeking admission into the Faculty of Science and Science Education must possess a minimum of five (5) Ordinary level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in addition to specific departmental requirements.
(1) Department of Biological Sciences
(i) Degree Programme Options
 B.Sc. Microbiology; Plant Biology; Zoology.
(ii)    Admission Requirements 
(a)   O’ Level Subjects
The five O’ Level credits to include English   Language, Mathematics, Chemistry,  Biology and    any one of Physics, Further Mathematics, Geography, Foods and
Nutrition
(b)   Direct Entry
(i)   At least two Advanced Level passes in Botany, Zoology, Biology and Chemistry.
(ii)  IJMB/NCE/ND or approved equivalents.

(iii)  The Bowen Foundation Year Programme (BFP).
(iv)     In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 1( ii)(a) above.
2)   Department of Biochemistry(i)  Degree Programme Option
     B.Sc. Biochemistry
(ii) Admission Requirements
(a) O’ Level Subjects
The five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry,Physics and Biology.
(b) Direct Entry
(i) At least two Advanced Level passes  in Chemistry, and  either   Mathematics or Physics,
(ii) IJMB/NCE/ND/International Bacaulaurete or approved equivalent.
(iii) Bowen Foundation Year Programnme.
(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 2( ii )(a) above.
                                             
(3)  Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry

(i)   Degree Programme Options
 B.Sc. Chemistry; Industrial Chemistry.
     
(ii)   Admission Requirements

(a) O’ Level SubjectsThe five O’ Level subjects to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
(b)  Direct Entry
(i)    At least two Advanced Level passes in Chemistry, and either Mathematics or Physics ,
(ii)   IJMB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent.

(iii)  Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv)   In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 3( ii)(a) above.

(4)  Department of Computer Science and Information Technology
(i)   Degree Programme Option
B.Sc. Computer Science. 
(ii)   Admission Requirements
a) O’ Level Subjects
The five O’ Level subjects to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and any two from Further Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Geography, Economics and Technical Drawing.

(b)  Direct Entry
      
(i)    At least two Advanced Level passes to include Mathematics and Physics

(ii)    IJMB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent
(iii)   Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv)   In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 4 (ii) (a) above.
  (5)  Department of Mathematics and Statistics

       (i)   Degree Programme Options
B.Sc. Mathematics; Statistics.
      (ii)  Admission Requirements
(a) ‘ O’ Level SubjectsThe five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics,  and any other three subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science, Economics, Geography,  Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing
(b)  Direct Entry
(i)      At least two Advanced Level passes to include   Mathematics and any one of  Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Statistics and Physics.
(ii)     IJMB/NCE/ND/International Baccalaureate or approved equivalent
(iii)    Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv)   For Statistics, a diploma in Statistics , from a recognized University is acceptable.
(v)    In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 5 (ii) (a) above.

(6)  Department of Physics and Solar Energy
(i)      Degree Programme Option
         B.  Sc. Physics with Solar Energy.
                     
(ii)    Admission Requirements

(a) ‘O’ Level Subjects
The five O’ Level subjects to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one of  Biology/Agricultural Science, Geography,  Technical  Drawing, Further Mathematics and Food and Nutrition.

(b) Direct Entry(i)     At least two GCE Advanced Level passes in Mathematics and Physics.
            In exceptional cases, Physics and Chemistry may be considered.
(ii)      IJMB/NCE/ND/International Baccalaureate or approved equivalent. 

(iii)      Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv)     In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 6 (ii) (a)  above.

(E) FACULTY OF SOCIAL AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES (3 or 4 Year Programme)
General Entry Requirements
Candidates seeking admission into the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences must possess a minimum of five (5) Ordinary level Credit Passes to include English Language and Mathematics in addition to specific departmental requirements.

(1) Department of Accounting
(i)    Degree Programme Option
        B.Sc. Accounting
     
(ii)   Admission Requirements

(a) O’ Level SubjectsThe five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, one other Social Science subject and any other subject.
(b)  Direct Entry
(i) At least two Advanced Level passes to include Economics and any one of Government, Geography, Mathematics, Business Method and  Economic History.
(ii)   IJMB/NCE/ND/ATS of ICAN or approved equivalent.
(iii)  Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv)  In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 1 (ii) (a) above.

(2)  Department of Banking and Finance
(i)  Degree Programme Option
     B.Sc. Banking and Finance
     
(ii)  Admission Requirements

(a) ‘O’ Level SubjectsThe five ‘O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, one other   Social Science subject and any other subject.
b)  Direct Entry(i) At least two Advanced Level passes to include Economics and any one of Government, Geography, Mathematics, Business Method and Economic History.
(ii)  IJMB/NCE/ND/Banking Certificate/CIBN or approved equivalent.
(iii) Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 2 (ii) (a) above..

(3)  Department of Business Administration
(i)   Degree Programme Option
      B.Sc. Business Administration
     
(ii)  Admission Requirements

(a) O’ Level Subjects
The five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Government / Geography and any other subject.

(b) Direct Entry
(i) At least two Advanced Level passes to include any of the following: Economics,  Government, Geography, Mathematics, Business Method and Economic History
(ii) IJMB/NCE/ND/ATS of ICAN or approved equivalent.
(iii) Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv)   In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 3 (ii) (a) above.

(4)  Department of Economics
(i)   Degree Programme Option      B.Sc. Economics
(ii)  Admission Requirements
(a) O’ Level Subjects
The five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Government/Geography and any one of Commerce and Financial Accounting.

(b) Direct Entry
(i)   At least two Advanced level passes which must include Economics, and any other subject from Government,  Geography, Further Mathematics and  Economic History.
(ii)  IJMB/NCE/ND or its approved equivalent .
(iii) Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 4 (ii) (a) above.

(5)  Department of Mass Communication
(i)   Degree Programme Option
 B.Sc. Mass Communication
     
(ii)  Admission Requirements

(a) O’ Level SubjectsThe five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Literature-in-English and two other subjects in Arts and Social Sciences.
(b)  Direct Entry
(i)   At least two Advanced Level passes in any Arts or Social  Science subjects which may include Commerce and Financial Accounting,
(ii)   IJMB/NCE/ND or its approved equivalent
(iii)  Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv)   In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 5 (ii) (a) above

(6)  Department of Sociology
(i)   Degree Programme Option
             B.Sc. Sociology
     
(ii)  Admission Requirements

(a) O’ Level Subjects
The five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, and any two Social Science subjects and one other subject.
(b)  Direct Entry
(i)   At least two Advanced Level passes  to include  Economics, and any one of Government, Geography, History and Religious Studies
(ii)  IJMB/NCE/ND or its equivalent
(iii) Bowen Foundation Year Programme
(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ level requirements as stated in 6 (ii) (a) above

F. NOTE ON DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT(a) In addition to the two ‘A’ Level papers, NCE/OND, candidates must satisfy the ‘O’ Level requirements for the programme.
(b) Direct Entry Candidates are not to appear for the University Screening Exercise scheduled for Saturday, 14th May, 2011 but must appear for interview at a date to be announced later.
G. MODE OF APPLICATION(a)       APPLICATION FORMS
(i) Application forms may be obtained by hand or by post upon presentation of a non-refundable application fee of N6,000.00 in bank draft payable to BOWEN UNIVERSITY, IWO. Bank drafts must be obtained from any of the following banks:

(ii) Candidates must indicate names and addresses at the back of the Bank Draft.
(iii) Each request for application form by post must be accompanied by a N50.00 (fifty naira) stamped and self-addressed envelope.

Completed Application Forms must be returned to the Submission Centres stated above not later than Friday, 29th April, 2011.

K    DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED

(a)    Photocopies of all relevant credentials including  2011   JAMB/ DIRECT ENTRY/UME Registration / Result Slip,
(b)    Photocopy of Birth Certificate,

(d)    Photocopy of receipts of Bowen University admission forms,
(e)    One coloured passport photograph, the same as the one fixed to the application form and the Acknowledgement Card with your name and Form Number written at the back of the photograph.
(f)    The Yellow copy of the Acknowledgement Card.

(ii)    For Online Application
All candidates who apply online are to submit the following on the day of the Screening at their various Centers:
(a)    Photocopies of all relevant credentials including  2011   JAMB/ DIRECT ENTRY/UTME Registration / Result Slip,
(b)    Photocopy of Birth Certificate
(c)    One coloured passport photograph, the same as the one uploaded on the Profile Entry and Acknowledgment Card.
(d)    A photocopy of the  printed “Bank Payment Slip”
(e)    A Photocopy of the Branchcollect, PIN Payment Receipt for Bowen University
(f)    A Photocopy of the printed Acknowledgement Card and the Profile Entry

L.    SCREENING OF CANDIDATES
(a)    All applicants are to appear for Bowen University Screening Exercise to be conducted by the University on Saturday,14th  May, 2011 at the following centers:
(i)    Baptist College of Theology, Benin-City
(ii)   Baptist Theological Seminary, Kaduna
(iii)  Baptist Academy, Obanikoro, Lagos
(iv)  Faith Baptist College, Port-Harcourt
(v)   Baptist High School, Jos

(vii)  Bowen University Pre-Degree Programme Centre, Osogbo.
(viii) Bowen University, Iwo

(b)    The screening of candidates will start at 9.00am. 
(c)    All candidates should come with their writing materials.
