12 FEARED DEATH IN FRESH JOS VIOLENCE

No fewer than 12  people have been killed in Barakin Ladi Local Government of Plateau State following a resurgence of violence in the area.
The latest killings brought to 19 the number of people killed in the area in the last 72 hours.
The  state government has also imposed a 24-hour curfew in the area.
Among the dead were a police officer, Mr. Dalyop Pindar  and his wife;  and four children of a councillor, Mr.  Pam Choji. Several houses were also razed down.
Over 60 people were said to have been arrested by the operatives of the Special Task Force.
The new wave of killing came barely three days after seven people were reportedly killed in an alleged attack by some itinerant herdsmen in Rakwok, a village around Kura Falls Junction off Bokkos Road, in the same local government.
Our correspondent gathered that the curfew was imposed after the state government consulted with the Commander of the STF aka ‘Operation Safe Haven’ Maj. Gen. Oluwaseun Osinowo.
It was further gathered that the latest attack, which started about 8pm on Wednesday, was a spill over of Monday’s attack, which pitted some Fulani herdsmen against the Beroms following alleged cattle rustling.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Abraham Yiljap, who spoke to journalists in Jos on Thursday on the development, said the situation had been brought under control.
He said, “There was a disturbance in Barakin Ladi last night, which continued this morning. But the situation is under control. However a 24-hour curfew has been imposed in Barkin Ladi and adjoining areas and security is all over the local government to curtail the escalation of the situation.”
The commissioner expressed regret over the new wave of attack in the state despite several efforts to bring lasting peace to the state.
