UNILAG ALUMNUS SET TO BUILD HI-TECH AND LIBRARY CENTRES

An alumnus of the University of Lagos and Chief Executive Officer of Sofel Projects Limited, Oluseyi Samuel Osho has declared his readiness to build a high-tech digital centre and library project in the University.

The project is in line with the philanthropist’s desire to contribute to the development of his alma mater as well as complement government’s efforts to position tertiary institutions to meet the future needs of Nigeria.

Under the project, Mr Osho is to:
1.       construct a three-floor complex according to the drawing prepared by the University,
2.       equip the Centre with state-of-the art telecommunication and computer facility which would offer teleconferencing and high speed internet connection as well as first class access to the global information highway,
3.       link the Centre to other high-tech digital libraries around the world,
4.       provide and fund research on an on-going basis into the use and application of information and telecommunication technology (ICT) in socio-economic development of Nigeria, and
5.       endow a Professorial Chair.

Mr. Osho has also proposed two names for the Centre. They are Oreoluwa Osho Center For ICT Research and Development or Oreoluwa Osho Digital Library. This is in memory of Mr. Osho’s late mother, Mrs. Oreoluwa Osho who was until her death, industrious and highly resourceful.

The project which would be anchored by Sofel Projects Limited, would commence after the finalization of drawings and preparation of Bill of Quantities scheduled to be ready before December 15, 2011.
