UNILAG GETS NEW BURSAR

Mr. Lateef Alani Odekunle has been appointed as the Bursar of the University of Lagos. His appointment takes effect from November 3, 2011. Until his appointment, Mr. Odekunle was the Deputy Bursar and Head, Directorate of Final Accounts. Born on October 10, 1963 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Mr. Odekunle attended Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Abeokuta from 1976 to 1981 and Federal College of Education (Technical) from 1983 to 1986 where he earned his West African Examination Council Certificate and National Certificate of Education in Business Education respectively. He also made his three papers at Advanced Level of the General certificate Examination (GCE) at once in 1986 as a private candidate. For his first degree, he attended the University of Benin, Edo State from 1987 to 1990 where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (Second Class Upper Division). He subsequently attended the University of Lagos, Akoka from 1997 to 1999 where he obtained a Masters Degree in Economics. Mr. Odekunle’s professional qualifications include Associate, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ACA, 2000); Associate, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI, 2004) and Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA, 2011). After a private sector experience in the banking industry, the Ogun State indigene joined the services of the University of Lagos. He was Head, Expenditure Control of Works and Services Department in January, 1996; Principal Accountant and Head, Salaries & Wages, 1996; Principal Accountant and Head, Cash Office, 1997 Principal Accountant and Head, Accounts Division, UNILAG Guest Houses and Conference Centre, 1999; Chief Acountant & Head, Final Acccounts, 2001; Acting Deputy Bursar, Final Accounts Division, 2005; Chief Accountant, International School in February, 2008; Chief Accountant and Head, Directorate of Final Accounts in August, 2009 and Deputy Bursar & Head, Directorate of Final Accounts in June, 2010. Outside his official duties at the University of Lagos, Mr. Odekunle is an Adjunct Lecturer, Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos; Treasurer, UNILAG Muslim Community (2001-Date) and Resource Person, UNILAG Staff Training Center. He has served as the President (2004-2006) and Treasurer (1998-2002) of Unique UNILAG Staff Co-operative and Multipurpose Society; Chairman of the Planning and Organizing Committee, Bursary Staff Retreat; Planning and Organizing Committee, Committee of Bursars of Nigerian Universities hosted by the UNILAG Bursar in 2009. The accomplished accountant has some publications to his credit. He has also attended and presented papers in conferences and workshops. He is happily married and blessed with children.
