FUPRE In Crisis As Students Protest Over Accrediting Of Degree Course

Alert reached us to alert the general public that the Federal University and Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, Ugbomro, in Delta State, yesterday had a rough time that occured in between the management of the school and 400–level students over the refusal of the students to write their terminal examinations if their degree courses were not accredited.

the 400 level students ignored their final year examinations yesterday and insisted they would not sit for the examination until they grant them their desire which is to accrediting of their courses.

One interesting fact was unveiled by National Universities Commission,
NUC, Prof. Alhassan Bichi. He said that "
Due to alleged mismanagement of the institution, none of the
courses offered by the institution had been accredited by the relevant authorities in the past five years. Recently,  FUPRE programmes were not accreditable at the moment yet. Following the embarrassment caused by the students' action, the management has promised to deal with any of the 400-level students that refuses to write the final year examination. Lecturers are also instructed not to allow any of the aggrieved students to sit for carry-over courses. The representatives of the 400- level students had in a crucial meeting with the Vice-
Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Alabi, said that they would not write the final year examinations until their courses were accredited.

Editor's Note:  This is a great determination for the students and a shame for the school management. God help Us.
