This is to inform the general public and the students of tertiary institution in Nigeria that the Senior Staff Association Of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has decided to embark on an indefinite strike come 9th Of January, 2011 because of the no solution to the 2009 agreement discussed with the Federal Government then.Some newsmen discussed with the chairman of the university of Ibadan Chapter, Mr. Omolona Olu after a congress at the institute that the federal Government has pledge to be in line with the agreement by 8th of January.
He also said that the Bill for an act to harmonise the retirement age of academic staff of the federal universities, polytechnics and college of education and for matters incidental 2011 have not been pass still. Though the FG promised to pass them(the bills) before the year 2011 runs out but both the senate and house of representatives are on vacation now.
He also said that there is nothing like negotiation; it is either the FG DO WHAT THEY WANT OR THE WHOLE VARSITIES ACTIVITIES WILL BE PARALYSED.
He concluded his speech by informing other unions in the university system to come together and enforce the strike as to recalled that SSANU had in 2009 signed an agreement with the FG on the implementation of the 65 years of retirement age for its members as well as adequate funding for the universities.
